Curt Brock ART 3710 A/B 1-3 credit hours, prerequisite 371 Course Objectives: To continue to increase the student's technical vocabulary with the main emphasis on creating a personal aesthetic and the continued formulation of content behind their work. Instructional Plan: Slide lectures, demonstrations, discussion, reading, written assignments. Assignments will focus on advanced glassworking techniques both hot and cold. Self-motivation and idea development will be expected. Materials: Hot glass and some basic coldworking materials will be provided. Students should begin to acquire their own hand tools and blow pipes. Students should provide their own safety glasses & respirator - a paper mask will be fine. A sketch book should be kept and will count towards your final grade. A 8.5x11 legal pad is also required. Potential topics to be covered: Intermediate off-hand glassworking, hot and coldworking techniques, introduction to mold making, and exposure to a variety of professional artists' work. Evaluation of Grade :Final grade of all finished projects,tasks or assignments given out during the semester. Clean up jobs, sketch books review, 2 slides of work given to the instructor at the end of the semester, individual initiative and attitude, and written examination will also help in determine the grade. Attendance, 3 or more absences will result in grade reduction & being late (5 min. or more) 3 times will count as 1 absence. Anyone caught plagiarizing or cheating will automatically receive a "F". Letter Grade Definitions A - This implies great effort and great success in all projects assigned. This grade is awarded to the occasional person who exhibits tremendous effort and motivation and success through out the semester. B - A very good job. The person earning this grade has worked very hard: has pushed him/herself beyond the mere fulfillment of each assignment and has shown obvious growth in technical and conceptual skills. C - The student earning this grade has fulfilled the requirements of the course, worked fairly hard and did a good job. D - Below par. This grade indicates the student had a difficult time grasping the basic skills and/or trouble fulfilling the requirements of the class. F - Suffering from one or all of these symptoms: lack of interest, bad attitude, failure to complete assignments, excess lateness or absence, caught plagiarizing.
