LAB TEXTS Making the Connections
A How-To Guide for Organic Chemistry Lab Techniques
(MC) Padias
Laboratory Exercises for Organic Chemistry, (6th Ed.) (LE) Crouse

SAFETY GOGGLES are required at all times. It is recommended that the student bring in paper towels, a lab apron, rubber gloves and detergent.

GRADING

EXPERIMENTS (35%) To obtain credit for the scheduled experiments, the student will turn in a typewritten report after the conclusion of each experiment.

PRODUCTS (15%) In experiments where a product is generated, the product will be turned in and evaluated with respect to yield and purity.

NOTEBOOK (20%) A bound LABORATORY NOTEBOOK with numbered pages and carbons will be required. The notebook is required at all lab sessions and must be kept current for minimum credit.  Pre-lab carbons will be turned in at the beginning of each experiment for 2/5 of this credit.  Daily laboratory record carbons will be turned in following each lab period, for another 2/5 credit.  Notebooks will be subject to unannounced examination and evaluation at any time during the semester, for the remaining 1/5 credit.

LAB TEST (30%) Quizzes covering both theoretical and practical topics from the scheduled experiments will be given. Relevant material from lecture is also included.  Occasional "pop" quizzes may also be included for a portion of this grade.
