Art History II, ART 2120
This Art History II class surveys the art of the Renaissance through the 19th century. Slide lectures and videos
are presented to place the art into historical and cultural context.
Text: Gardner's Art through the Ages: The Western Perspective, Volume II, 12th edition, by Fred S. Kleiner and Christin J. Mamiya. This textbook is only available at the TTU bookstore during the semester that the class is taught.

Chapter 14: From Gothic to Renaissance: 14th - Century Italian Art
Chapter 15: Piety, Passion, and Politics: 15th - Century Art in Northern Europe and Spain
Chapter 16: Humanism and the Allure of Antiquity: 15th Century Italian Art
Chapter 17: Beauty, Science, and Spirit in Italian Art: The High Renaissance and Mannerism
Chapter 18: The Age of Reformation: 16th - Century Art in Northern Europe and Spain
Chapter 19: Popes, Peasants, Monarchs, and Merchants: Baroque Art
Chapter 20: The Enlightenment and its Legacy: Art of the Late 18th through the Mid -19th Century
Chapter 21: The Rise of Modernism: Art of the Later 19th Century
Tests: Three tests will be given. Each test will count for 33 1/3% of the final grade. Each test will cover new material (from lectures and the required text), but you are expected to remember pertinent information from previous sections. Tests will consist of slide identification, in multiple choice format, and comparative essays. Makeup tests will only be given to students who have a doctor's note or my permission before the test. A grade of "0" will be averaged in with the other grades for each test missed.
Grades: Each test will count as 1/3 of the final grade. Extra credit (optional) will be added to the final grade. A is 100-90; B is 89-80; C is 79-70; D is 69-60; and F is below 60.
Attendance Policy: Students are expected to attend all classes.
