Art 4100 /5100 is an upper level 3-credit art history class that is
designed for students who are familiar with the art and architecture in
Florence and Rome. This class will meet every Thursday from
5:00 – 6: pm in BFA 374 to plan and prepare for the trip.
Only one absence will be allowed. Two points will be subtracted from the
final grade for each additional class missed.
The class will fly to Italy on May 10th to visit local museums and churches in Florence and Rome. The last day of class is May 19th, the day of the flight home. Students may stay longer in Europe at their own risk and expense, provided they notify Dr. Ventura before January 21st where and when they will return home so that she may purchase the appropriate plane tickets for them.
Campus meetings will count for 10%, a research paper will count for 30%, and visits to the Uffizi, Santa Croce, Santa Maria Novella in Florence, then the Colosseum, the Arch of Titus, and the Capitoline Museum in Rome, and then St. Peter’s and the Vatican Museum will count for 60% of the grade.
The $2200 cost only includes airfare, transportation to and from the airport in Rome, and a hotel room shared with one other person. A private hotel room will cost an additional $500. Not included in the price are transportation to and from the Nashville airport (participants may share a vehicle and park it in the economy lot at the airport for $8 a day) lunch and dinner, museum entry fees, and local transportation. To join the tour, register for ART4100 or ART 5100 (graduate level). If more than 20 students sign up for the class, then students with the most art history classes and the best grades in those classes will be selected. Full time TTU Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, and Graduate students (of any major) are eligible to receive a $1000 Study Abroad Scholarship (for the airfare, train tickets, and taxis).
