Jan (pronounced "Yan") Piotr Ledwon was an internationally recognized, award-winning, self-taught wood carver. In the kitchen of his apartment, in the city of Bielsko-Biala in southern Poland, he carved sensitive, free-standing and wall-mounted figures and signs. He used around 20 different chisels to carve his pieces from dry linden wood. They were finished with either shellac or wax. Jan passed away in 2008. His expressive sculptures may be found in many international collections. |
