Example 1 is an example of a 2x2 solution using augmented matrices. This is the problem that the author uses as an example in Appendix D, worked out as a triangular matrix to the right of the augmented portion. Study the solution to see how it differs from the book:

Example 2. The system has already been changed to an augmented matrix. The equations in the system were x-5y=8 and 4x-19y=28.

Example 3. The next example has 3 variables. Missing variables have 0 as their coefficients. This is problem 12 from the book.

Example 4. Another example of a 3x3. This one has no "missing" terms. This is problem 10 from the book.

Example 5. An example of an inconsistent system. This is problem 18.

Example 6. An example of a dependent system. This is problem 20.
