Welcome to the SMART Laboratory in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Tennessee Tech University. In our lab, we conduct research projects based on smart materials including piezoelectric, conductive polymer, electroactive polymer, and various nano-particles. Using these active materials, we design, fabricate, and control new electromechanical devices. Our current research activities include the development of printed mechatronic systems using an aerosol printer, multifunctional machine components , and structural health monitoring. We also conduct collaborative research with GM for modeling, simulation, and control of a full vehicle system.
