Art 3610 - Weaving I

Art 3610 is an in-depth study of weaving techniques on a floor loom, including double weave structures, multi-shaft lace patterns, exploration of mixed and alternative fibers, and pattern drafting. An integral component is instruction in design for weaving.

Students will learn how to read and create their own pattern drafts, and will design and draft out all weave structures prior to the actual weaving. Emphasis is also on developing a personal aesthetic through color and fiber choices in the designing of a handwoven fabric.

Throughout the course there will be a series of discussions covering the nature of craftsmanship,  the technical aspects of weaving that lead to well-crafted finished pieces, and the criteria for critically judging your work and that of other weavers.
