Art 3611 - Weaving II

Weaving II introduces the student to more complex loom- and weaver-controlled weave patterns within the context of developing a personal aesthetic evident in a body of work the student designs and weaves during the semester. Initially, samplers are created to learn the processes and for use in making decisions about finished projects. Samplers will include yarns of various types, fiber content, and thickness. Based on the samplers, each student will design finished projects that emphasize an understanding of the weaving process, warp and weft yarn decisions, and purpose of the finished product whether functional or aesthetic. Emphasis will be on development of technical and design capabilities at every stage of the weaving process. This includes discussions on color and design, the technical aspects of weaving that lead to well-crafted finished pieces, and how to critically judge woven work.
