bulletART 2610 - Introduction to Fibers. 3 credits. Introduction to a variety of fibers techniques emphasizing surface design techniques and weaving.  Creativity, experimentation of design, and quality of craftsmanship are emphasized.
bulletART 3610 - Weaving I. 3 credits. Prerequisite: ART 2610 or permission of instructor. An in-depth study of weaving techniques on a floor loom, including double weave structures, multi-shaft lace patterns, exploration of mixed and alternative fibers, and pattern drafting. An integral component is instruction in design for weaving. Emphasis is also on developing a personal aesthetic through color and fiber choices in the designing of handwoven fabric.
bulletART 3611 - Weaving II. 3 credits. Prerequisite: ART 3610 or permission of instructor. Introduces the student to more complex loom- and weaver-controlled weave patterns within the context of developing a personal aesthetic evident in a body of work the student designs and weaves during the semester. Samplers are created to learn the processes and for use in making decisions about finished projects. Emphasis will be on development of technical and design capabilities at every stage of the weaving process.
bulletART 3620 - Surface Design I. 3 credits. Prerequisite: ART 2610 or permission of instructor. Explores hand application techniques with Fiber Reactive and acid dyes on natural fabrics that include paste resists, monoprinting, "burn-out," and discharge. Emphasis is on development of work that is conceptually personal yet displays understanding of the methods and materials used.
bulletART 3621 - Surface Design II. 3 credits. Prerequisite: ART 3620 or permission of instructor. Explores screen printing techniques with fiber reactive and acid dyes on natural fabrics. Techniques include low-tech screen stencil methods, screen monoprinting methods, photo screen-printing with light sensitive screen emulsion, screen construction, repeat pattern printing, multiple-color registration printing, fabric preparation for dyeing, hand and machine sewing. Emphasis on technical skills and personal artistic development.
bulletART 3630, 3631 - Independent Studies in Fibers. 1, 2, or 3 credits.  Prerequisite: permission of the instructor. Individual fiber projects with emphasis on design in weaving or textile.
bulletART 4610 - Senior Thesis in Fiber. 1 to 6 credits, maximum 18. Guided individual studio projects leading to a professional level of technical accomplishment in a stylistically coherent body of work. A twelve credit series of Senior Thesis classes culminate in the required final exhibition.
bulletART 4640 - Special Problems in Fibers. 1, 2, or 3 credits. Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor. Individual studio projects agreed upon by the instructor and student.
