Study Tips
Everyone wants good grades. Following are a few strategies and techniques that can help you achieve a
good grade in this course.
1. Make learning your goal. If you work hard to learn and if learning is your main desire you will
probably earn the grade you desire.
If concern for grades comes before learning it will be harder to maintain the discipline necessary to achieve
desired grades.
LOVE LEARNING!!!!!
2. Reading
a. Preliminary Reading--casually read the assigned material and develop a basic
familiarity with the content. At this stage
do not take notes or use a highlighter.
b. Intense Study--Reread the material and move at a slower pace making sure to take note of
important points. During this stage I prefer
to use a notepad and create my own set of summary notes for the material. As you
create your own notes for the reading assignment its
a good idea to introduce your own original examples that illustrate points introduced in the text.
c. Pre-exam Coverage--Study the original text material and your summary notes as you
prepare for the exam. This stage should
start at least 5-7 days before the exam and should be repeated several times before
taking the exam.
3. Study for exams.
a. Start early, study a little each day and top it off with a 3-4 hour study session the
night before the exam. Exam preparation
should not be put off until the last minute. Start studying about a week before the exam date. The night before
the exam can top
off this preparation with a 3-4 hour study session.
b. Write as you study. For many people simply reading over notes or text material is not
intense enough for them to grasp the
material. For these people it is a good idea to write as they study.
c. Anticipate questions and practice answering them. Try to guess what type of questions
the instructor will ask and then practice
answering them.
4. Submit professional looking assignments. There is no excuse for sloppy work.
You should rewrite at least once. Be careful to have
good sentence structure and punctuation.
