"My teaching philosophy is that students need to work from a position of knowledge.  They must have a good technical background, and an understanding of history and theory.  Using this knowledge, the students are encouraged and expected to create new work of their own"
- Bob Coogan

The metals department covers approximately 6,000 square feet of well-ventilated space, with a mix of natural and artificial lighting.  The studio includes a main bench room, raising/workroom, buffing room, chemical room, and blacksmithing facility, and is equipped to cover a range of work from jewelry to large-scale sculptural pieces.  Outdoor metals storage and a work area overlook Center Hill Lake.
