Art 3830 and 3831 - Independent Studies - Metals

1-3 credit hours: prerequisite ART 3810 or ART 3820 and consent of department

Course objectives; This course will give the advanced student the chance to explore in depth a technique or concept to a greater extent than can be cover in a normal class. Permission to enroll will be granted at the discretion of the department. This decision will be based primarily on the student’s ability to complete the investigation chosen.

Instructional plan; The student must present to the supervising faculty member a written proposal outlining the coals of the independent study including dates for progress checks. The student is expected to keep up with their proposal. Any changes must be reported to the faculty. Students are expected to work "independently", conduct their own research and achieve their goals. Faculty member acts as an advisor. This is not a private class.

Materials and tools; The studio is well equipped with basic tools which will be available to the student. Students will need to provide personal safety equipment and the materials that their work will be made from. The students will be able to include a wide range of other materials as is appropriate to their individual projects. Materials and supplies may be purchased in the supply store or from other venders.

Text; This will consist of research and specialized readings. Most materials can be found in our library. On occasion the faculty member may provide reading materials from their personal library.

Grading and Evaluation; Grades are based on evaluation and critique of the finished project. Growth and improvement are taken into consideration. Attendance and arriving late for scheduled meetings will also affect the grade. Incomplete grades are only granted for medical situations with a doctor’s excuse in accordance with T.T.U.’s policy.

Accommodations for students with special needs are coordinated through the office of disability services at 931-372-6119
