Abundance: Fairly Common (observed in 17 counties, 5 in Kentucky and 12 in Tennessee).

Status: Winter Resident; photographs.

Regional High Count: 575 (23 February 1997; Floating Mill Recreation Area, Center Hill Lake, DeKalb County, Tennessee; Stephen J. Stedman).

Regional Extreme Dates:

    Early Fall: 8 October 2001 (DeKalb County, Tennessee; Stephen J. Stedman).

    Late Spring: 17 April 2009 (DeKalb County, Tennessee; Stephen J. Stedman).

Habitat: Mainly restricted to the big lakes of the Region, but uncommonly found on smaller lakes and larger ponds, especially during the periods of migration.

YardWatch Results 2003 and 2004: No registrations.

RemarksSome information about the wintering behavior of this grebe in the Birds of North America account of this species (Stedman 2000) was collected at Center Hill Lake, DeKalb County, Tennessee.
