Course Text: Reep, Diana. 2006. Technical Writing: Principles, Strategies, and Readings.
                                    7th ed. Boston: Allyn and Bacon.

Course Objectives:

        1. To increase students' knowledge of professional writing formats and techniques;

        2. To increase students' ability to write clear, audience-friendly professional and technical documents;

        3. To improve students' oral communication skills.

Some Course Policies:

        1. Most in-class assignments will be written in a computer lab, so knowledge of the
                word-processing program (Microsoft Word) used in the labs is imperative;

        2. Absence and/or tardiness may negatively affect the course grade;

        3. Submission of late work may negatively affect the assignment grade;

        4. Early departure from class should occur only for good cause and only after having discussed the
                need for the early departure with the professor at the beginning of class;

        5. Quizzes, if missed, may not be made up without written documentation excusing the
                miss; the same is true for longer assignments;

        6. Avoid all forms of oral gratification, including drinking, eating, or chewing in class;

        7. Submit a grade breakdown sheet to the professor at the end of the final exam.

Students with a disability requiring accommodation should contact the Office of Disability Services (ODS).  An Accommodation Request (AR) should be completed as soon as possible, preferably by the end of the first week of the course.  The ODS is located in the Roaden University Center, Room 112; phone 372-6119.
