Notes

One species not previously recorded on the Putnam County Spring Bird Count (SBC) is featured in bold red; this species increased the all-time species total for the Putnam County SBC to 201 and, since it was also a species new to the county, it increased the all-time county list of species to 255.  Species totals (15) denoted by one asterisk (*) represent record numbers on the Putnam County SBC; species totals (9) denoted by two asterisks (**) represent record numbers on the Putnam County SBC and all-time high numbers in Putnam County.

   The merganser sp. was noted at Cane Creek Park.

   The Common Loon was a flyover at Cane Creek Park.

   The Double-crested Cormorants were found on Martin Creek along Rt. 96 in the far western part of the county.

   The Cattle Egret provided the 8th record for the county and was observed on St. Mary's Rd. north of Buffalo Valley.

   The Osprey was noted at Burgess Falls State Natural Area.

   The American Coot was noted in a pond near Bear Creek Rd.

   The Eurasian Collared-Doves were found in the Double Springs area.

   The Barn Owl was found at the traditional site in the county.

   One Warbling Vireo was found at the end of Water Plant Rd. (DAD), and the other was found on Mill Creek Rd. (BHS).

   The Brown-headed Nuthatches were found at the Cookeville Golf Course, the only site where it is known to occur in the county.

   The Ruby-crowned Kinglet, found at Shipley Farm, established a new late spring departure date for the county.

   The Black throated Blue Warbler, a male, was photographed (JEM) in the Cumberland Cove area of eastern Putnam County.

   The Henslow's Sparrow, a species new to the Putnam County bird list, was recorded near Monterey Lake along Walker Farm Rd. (private) east of Monterey; two singing birds were heard at this site.
