The Ferndale Geyser, Ferndale WA, July 2004
From an ancient, rusty coal-mine vent pipe, the Ferndale Geyser erupts with
clockwork precision every five to fifteen minutes. The awesome fury of this
extraordinary "accidental" wonder of the Pacific Northwest
is readily
evident in the powerful blast of water gushing forth
from
the gnarled iron nozzle, accompanied by the acrid
perfume of effervescent methane gas.
