Requirements for the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree

The centerpiece of the Craft Center's educational mission is the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, offering top-quality professional education in craft media.  While proceeding through the BFA program, the students specifies a concentration in Clay, Glass, Fibers, Wood, or Metals, and after graduation the transcripts and diploma will specify the area of concentration, rather than just a BFA degree in art.  The BFA curriculum includes twelve credits of senior thesis to be taken in the students final year, culminating in a Senior Thesis Exhibition, showing the level of aesthetic and technical accomplishment at the time of graduation.  The Bachelor of Fine Arts is the standard baccalaureate degree in studio art today, and the expected precursor to most MFA programs.  The BFA degree is a valuable addition to any artist's resume, especially now that so many galleries and art exhibitions are placing some emphasis on artist's credentials in addition to the appearance of the artwork.
